Smart parents arm their children with tools which lead to
both happiness and success. Let’s discuss three of the major reasons for equipping
children with focus. First, social
skills are greatly affected by the ability to focus. Second, confidence is built when children can
focus and succeed at tasks. The last and
most obvious reason for arming your child with focus is progressive academic success.
Here are some short tips for developing
focus in each of these areas.
Social Development
As children develop social skills smart parents teach
listening by training their children to respond in various social
situations.
- · Please—Thank you
- · Yes ma’am—no ma’am
- · What is your name—say it loud and clear with eye contact
- · Letting other children share their ideas—responding to their ideas in a positive manor
Develop Confidence
Confidence comes when children learn to complete tasks on their
own and then get proper recognition.
- · Put away their toys
- · Carry clothes to dirty clothes hamper
- · Read a book or listen to you read them a book
- · Put together a puzzle
- · Set the dinner table
Academic Focus
Training for academic focus begins at home. Smart parents engage in the following
training with their children.
- · Assign 2-3 tasks and have your child repeat them back to you
- · Ask questions about the story after reading a book
- · Write letters or thank you notes to family and friends
- · Play games that require taking turns
Smart parents will relentlessly hold their children
accountable in each of these areas. Focus requires years of training. School takes 12 years to graduate from high
school with just a basic education.
Focus is a lifelong goal. Smart
parents equip their children for the journey.
